What is Vestibular Rehab?

Our therapists create a personalized treatment plan after assessing the patient and understanding their goals. Vestibular exercises and a hands-on approach is used to eliminate or reduce dizziness, improve balance, reduce visual disturbances, improve walking and address neck pain. Others benefits include improved strength, flexibility and coordination.

Repositioning maneuvers, such as the Eply maneuver are used to address BPPV or benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, the most common type of vertigo. Typically, one or two treatments can eliminate vertigo caused by position changes, the hallmark sign of this condition.Joining our balance training program lowers fall risk, boosts strength and balance, stabilizes vision, reduces dizziness, and improves quality of life.

Experienced and Compassionate Therapists

Our therapists are highly trained and dedicated to assisting those affected with dizziness and balance problems. Certifications include the American Institute of Balance or successful completion of the Competency-Based Vestibular Rehabilitation course at Emory University. Our therapists stay up to date with the latest research. Several of our therapists have over 20 years of experience treating this complex patient population.

We can address conditions related to vestibular and balance disorders, including (but not limited to):

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
  • Vestibular Neuritis or Labyrinthitis (Inner Ear Infection)
  • Peripheral Neuropathy
  • Migraine Associated Vertigo
  • Cervicogenic Vertigo
  • Meniere’s Disease
  • Post Concussion Syndrome and mild TBI
  • Acoustic Neuroma or Vestibular Schwannoma
  • Persistent Perceptual Postural Dysfunction (3PD)
  • Central Nervous System Disorders (Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke)
  • Multifactorial Disequilibrium
  • Exposure to Industrial Chemicals
  • Chemotherapy and some Antibiotic Treatments

Use of Modern Technology to Maximize Benefits of Therapy

  • NeuroCom Balance Master measures a patient’s balance and weight distribution using a sensitive force plate connected to a computer. A therapist closely supervises the patient as they do different tasks. This assists in measuring and improving balance function.
  • InVision Software & vHIT help identify and treat eye movement problems that cause dizziness, vision issues, and balance problems.
  • Infrared Video Goggles help therapists understand eye movements and diagnose conditions like BPPV. This helps them provide the best treatment for patients with specific impairments.
